Terms and Conditions
Entry eligibility:
The James Dyson Award is only open to winners of Dyson national Design Awards.
The product submitted can be developed as a professional project, class assessment or designed in the entrant's own time. The design submitted can be from any product group, but must reflect the award criteria and brief.
Entry requirements
Entries consist of all material submitted to the relevant national design award (i.e. project explanation and images).
Image Submission
A duplication of the National Award entry must be submitted including:
On a CD - all projects should be photographed from a variety of angles, showing internal aspects, if relevant. Drawings, plans and sketches should also be submitted.
These images will form the basis of your entry. Please ensure that your images are of sufficiently high quality. At least one image should show the product on a white background and be 300 dpi. If available, you may submit photo-realistic 3D CAD renderings of your product.
In addition to the images and any logos contained on the CD, please include a letter with the following information:
Project Name
This is the name that will appear on all communication and media coverage concerning your entry.
Project Description & Principle Function(s)
A succinct description of your project, outlining its principal purpose and function. You should describe the problem it solves and how it does this. This should be in English and be no longer than 200 words.
Judging
The judging panel consists of designers and academics from various countries. They submit their opinion based on the criteria. The final decision is made by James Dyson.
Further judging
If deemed appropriate, entries will be shipped to Dyson RDD in the UK for further judging. This will be done at the James Dyson Foundation's cost. If any entry is unable to be shipped for any reason, then all judging will be based on electronic entries.
Terms and conditions:
- All entrants' identification should be restricted to the entry form only and not included in the submission itself.
- The competition organisers are not responsible for obtaining or verifying any intellectual property rights relating to the product that has been entered. It is the responsibility of the entrant to secure protection for a product, which is being entered before submission. Proof of any patents, design applications or registrations, trademark applications or registrations, other rights, permissions or applications should be included with the entry.
- The entrant must confirm that he/she is the legal owner of all intellectual property and moral rights in the entry and, if not, that he/she has obtained all necessary permissions and licences from relevant third parties. The design must be original and not in breach of a third party's intellectual property rights.
- Dyson/James Dyson Foundation cannot receive entries in confidence.
- The entrant should indemnify all parties involved in the award including Dyson, the James Dyson Foundation, the promoters, the judging panel, the agents and employees against any third party claims that could arise from submission of the product to the competition.
- Judges will have the final say over all aspects of the competition, no further correspondence or discussion will be entered into and the entrant accepts the judges' decisions as final and binding.
- The winner and finalists of the award will agree to partake in any publicity and promotional activity surrounding the award and future awards. As part of their ambassador role, the winner will be required to partake in some activities recommended by the organisers. This may take place in either the national country or the United Kingdom.
- All entries should be available to the organisers for exhibition purposes, including 3-D models.
- The James Dyson Foundation will cover the cost of transporting required entries to and from desired locations and therefore insure items against loss and damage. All items will be returned to the owner once any publicity and promotional activity surrounding the award and future awards has finished.
- The overall winner will be announced early during the year following submission.
