DESIGN AND ENGINEERING IS VITAL TO EVERY SOCIETY. THE CURIOSITY TO TAKE THINGS APART AND MAKE THINGS IS INNATE IN ALL YOUNG PEOPLE.
SO ALONGSIDE THE JAMES DYSON AWARD, WE’RE BUILDING ON OUR ROOTS IN THE UK AND BRANCHING OUT INTERNATIONALLY.
FRANCE - CENTRE POMPIDOU, PARIS
Since 2008, the James Dyson Foundation has partnered with the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris to engage young children in design and creativity.
We have worked with the Centre Pompidou to run “Ma Maison en 2050” workshops, where thousands of young people imagine what it would be like to live in a house in 2050, and what technology they would use.
Singapore and Malaysia
For the last few years, the James Dyson Foundation has been running workshops at Singaporean and Malaysian universities and polytechnics.
So far, we've visited the Nanyang Technological University, National Singapore University, Singapore Polytechnic, Tunku Abdul Rahman University in Selangor and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in Johor. Every year, their students impress us with their inventiveness and creativity.
Japan
In Japan, the Foundation has been active, too.
In 2009, we partnered with 21_21 Design Sight and did a workshop in Tokyo for the little and the slightly older ones. Last year, we also held numerous workshops, one of them at Kobe's Design Day. We're continuing to forge strong relationships with Japanese schools and universities including the Uehara Junior High and Osaka University.
Canada
Recently, the James Dyson Foundation's activities have also landed on the Canadian shore.
In December 2011, we partnered with Science World in Vancouver to create an interactive exhibit and classroom to ignite children's interest in engineering. To celebrate the launch of the exhibit, we've also added new resources for budding engineers. Visit the Engineering Lab to find out more and get hands-on.
